Industrial Floors
Wood Block Flooring, Wood block floors, End Block flooring, woodblock floors are some of the
names used to
describe our products. Wood blocks, end blocks, butcher blocks; call them what you like!
Block floors are strong, beautiful and good for the environment, forests and communities that Old Wood works
with!
Industrial Wood Blocks may be had in Dense Old Growth Pine or Douglas Fir.
 |
Old Wood LLC uses densely ringed, old growth Ponderosa Pine and Douglas fir from fire suppression, forest management or actual fire reclamation sales.
All the wood we use is absolutely the most stable, best wood available for any heavy duty application and both have proven themselves in many of America’s heavy industries including: Bearing production, aluminum production, vehicle manufacturing, manufacturing of canons, power plants, warehousing, restaurant and commercial applications and anyplace a tough floor is needed.
Technical Data
Technical Data and Destructive Test results carried out for us by the Los Alamos National Labs show extremely high strength numbers. Also a discussion of the merits of Old Growth High Altitude Pine versus the many trees known as ‘southern yellow pine’. |
While we don’t deny the usefulness of those species, we do maintain that our wood is adequate, similar or better than any other pine species available.
We believe our hands on yet modern process provides the highest quality block available world wide today. Each and every block is hand inspected, de-burred, approved for service before packaging. This can run to hundreds of thousands of blocks sometimes; It’s what we do. We guarantee every block and will work with you in any way to get the best block at the best price including working with your installer or distributor all the way to the final floor.

Wood Blocks are shock absorbing, shock reducing for man and machine, anti-static, sound attenuating, light reflecting(if left natural colored), water resistant especially if properly coated and maintained. Oils just make them stronger! This old standby industrial floor is finding new life in high tech where tough work still takes place but where the workforce no longer is content to work on a dreary, rough, black floor. Our blocks make for a happy, healthy work environment which is both easy on the knees, feet and the eyes and mind as well. One shop foreman literally said to me that I had made his life better by talking his boss into a natural finish on the wood! You may finish it in any conventional way using any conventional materials but we encourage a fresh look at the final product.
Blocks come in all
standard or custom sizes: Pine may be had in 1” thickness for light
industrial up to 3” or thicker for heavy duty service.
Overall appearance of our blocks is excellent and we recommend the
use of light stains/no stain or simple linseed oil coatings for health,
safety and lowest cost.
Here is a conventional
installation using over 45,000 square feet of our Ponderosa Pine in a major
eastern facility: From light to
black coating, kind of a shame.
This photo shows our
pallets of blocks staged for installation:
The photo below shows a light
industrial application in which the blocks were used throughout the facility
and into the offices and were simply oiled and urethaned much as a normal
commercial floor would be. Modern
water based finishes combined with urethane glues solve the problems and
environmental issues related to older glues and coatings.
Light Industrial
application for 1” Ponderosa Pine: beautiful and strong.
Functionally Green: Wood
from trees from fires or from prescriptive forest management.

Keep us in the loop as much
as possible so we can both learn from your experience if you would be so
kind!
